We stopped by Jingdezhen, the world’s porcelain capital, and met Minyi, the maker behind Lanyin. We fell in love with their products and so, we’d love to bring them with us and share them with you.

A blend of the traditional and modern. Beautiful pieces rooted in Song dynasty aesthetics (宋式美学 sòng shì měi xué) that belong to a modern home.

China has long been associated with low quality production. But at Jingdezhen, it’s the opposite. Potteries and ceramics produced in this region has a high bar for quality and design.

Porcelain is fired at around 1300°C, hot enough that the clay itself vitrifies into a dense, glass-like body: no absorbed flavors, no lingering odors, a glaze that stays stable against food.

It's the same material the kilns of Jingdezhen have been perfecting for a thousand years.

The color is known as “celadon”. in Chinese, it belongs to 青 (qing), a shade in between blue, green, and gray. The 天青 (tian qing) of the Song kilns was the color of sky after rain.

It means the color of the sky, and it changes. It’s sometimes a reflection of what’s below it, the lake, the ocean, the houses and the city lights. And on a table, it takes on whatever is near it: morning window, dinner light, a lacquered tray.
